There was a Public Service Commissioner in the past Travancore express whose obligation was to choose possibility for guide enrollment to different classes of posts under the Government. G.D. Nokes was named as the main Public Service Commissioner on 14 June 1936. The Office of the Public Service Commissioner, Travancore kept on working till the coordination of Travancore and Cochin States.
In Cochin there was a Staff Selection Board constituted in 1936 to choose possibility for beginning enrollment to bring down posts. In 1947 a three-part Cochin Public Service Commission was constituted under an Act of the State Legislature.
The Travancore-Cochin State was shaped on 1 July 1949 by the coordination of the two Princely States of Travancore and Cochin.With the combination of the States of Travancore and Cochin on 1 July 1949 a Public Service Commission for the State of Travancore-Cochin was constituted by an Ordinance. There were three individuals on the Commission including the Chairman. The elements of the Travancore-Cochin Public Service Commission were for the most part the same as those set down in the Government of India Act, 1935. Afterward, when the Constitution of India came into constrain on 26 January 1950, the Travancore-Cochin Public Service Commission kept on working under the Constitutional Provisions.
The State of Kerala was framed on 1 November 1956 ensuing on the Reorganization of States. It includes the previous Travancore-Cochin State (with the exception of the present Kanyakumari District and Shencottah Taluk of the present Tamil Nadu) and the Malabar District and the Kasargod Taluk of South Kanara District of the then composite Madras State.
With the development of the State of Kerala on 1 November 1956 because of the revamping of States, the Travancore-Cochin Public Service Commission was changed into the Kerala Public Service Commission. V.K. Velayudhan was the first Chairman of Kerala Public Service Commission. The quantity of the Members of the Commission was expanded to Five of every 1959, to Seven out of 1971, to Eight out of 1981, to Nine out of 1982, to Thirteen out of 1983, to Fourteen out of 1984, to Fifteen out of 1984 and to the present quality of Eighteen out of 2005.
